Translated into French and presented by Benjamin Péret.
Among the many publications devoted to Mexico and the discovery of Mayan civilization by modern explorers, here is, having crossed the centuries, probably the most authentic and important document on this people: one of the four or five sacred Mayan books known throughout the world and, for the first time, published in French.
The origin of this manuscript dates back to the time before the Spanish conquest. In ancient Maní, in the land of the Mayas, lived a priest named Chilám Balám. Although we know little about his biography, we are well aware of the importance of his influence, both then and now. This renowned priest foretold a new religion. Hence the favorable predisposition with which Christianity was received a century later by the Mayas.

I own an original printed copy of this book, dating from 1955. I have compared them and can confirm that this PDF is an exact and complete copy of the original printed book, which, by the way, was never reissued. I must emphasize that the quality of this PDF document is excellent and that it is not simply a scan of a printed copy.

Chronicle by Max-Pol Fouchet on the “Book of Chilam Balam of Chumayel”.
Max-Pol Fouchet presents the “Book of Chilam Balam of Chumayel”, translated by French poet Benjamin Péret. It is a sacred and prophetic text written by a great Mayan priest, at a time when the Mayas occupied the Yucatán, present-day Mexico. This book, written after the Spanish conquest, tells the story of what the ancient Mayan civilization was. Max-Pol Fouchet explains the symbolism of the Mayan pyramids found in Yucatán, which are described in this book and provide valuable insight into what the Mayan civilization was.
